Is this program exclusively for primary schools?

No, the project is also an effective tool in re-engaging pupils at Year 7 & 8 with their learning and in accelerating their literacy. The project can be adapted across ability levels and for pupils with differing need including SEN and EAL learners.

Is the project just for literacy or are there other areas for RfL activity?

RfL drama-based activities are fully adaptable to different settings, subject areas and learning needs. We have centred RfL on literacy and specialise in this area but the methods and approach we take to learning can be used in your school universally.

How much experience do I need to have in drama/theatre to deliver these lessons?

None. We can provide all the training and support with professional develop that your team needs.

What school years is this project appropriate for?

The project has been tested at all primary mainstream school levels and has been adapted across the SEN primary and secondary levels.

How qualified are your practitioners?

Our team are highly trained industry professionals with experience of working in a wide range of settings.

Is this approach inclusive of EAL?

The RfL project was taken up at Date Valley Primary, which is a school with a high level of EAL pupils. The teachers were very impressed with the RfL model and the creative enrichment it provided for the curriculum, teachers and pupils.

Is this approach appropriate for young people with SEN?

The project ran for two years at Cricket Green School - an SEN school working with pupils from Yr 1 -Yr 13. It is the ideal project for SEN pupils because it provides new and exciting ways to access learning that are fully accessible for all.

We are part of Storytelling Schools. Would we still benefit from the RfL project?

Absolutely! RfL will deepen teacher's skills to provide a strong and confident understanding of how to use a range of drama techniques to further enrich the curriculum and classroom. In our experience, these two initiatives compliment each other very well.

How do I know that my teachers are going to be able to deliver this work independently?

To date we have worked with 19 teachers with different levels of experience, many of whom are now using these techniques unsupported. Depending on experience, we tailor-make the RfL experience so that all teachers with varying levels of drama skills can apply the tools and techniques to their lessons.

How do I know that this will benefit my pupils?

We have an evaluation report available to read based on two years experience of delivering RfL in Primary schools. We saw outstanding benefit to pupils involved in the project and continue to see improvement and engagement in those schools who have taken part.

How much does the RfL project cost? Is there funding available?

We offer free workshops to come and try out the RfL approach (see our 'Join the Project' page here.) We tailor the RfL project to align with your financial priorities by offering different levels of engagement. We understand that schools are experiencing budget constraints but believe this shouldn't be a barrier to taking part.
